The programs main goal is to provide the user with the means to create, modify or extract compressed files of different types. With the Windows version of the DOS version, which includes an easy-to-use shell and several commandline versions for various operating systems (DOS, Win32 and OS / 2 from 6/99). Compression features of WinAce are not limited to ACE - other popular formats, such as common and widely used ZIP format can be used for compression and extraction of data. Since handling archives is very similar to the handling of files and directories, WinAce, can also be used as a file manager shell. It supports operations such as copy, move or delete files, and viewing text and commonly used graphic files. WinAce achieves very high compression using the ACE compression format without sacrificing speed. ACE compression allows easier handling multi-volume (aka disk spanning) archives and more efficient compression than ZIP-format. Using solid compression improves the compression rate even more, especially when the data contains a large number of (small) files. Because of the high distribution ZIP files worldwide, ZIP format is also fully supported - although ZIP lacks powerful and fast compression ACE has to offer. WinAce is very easy to use! To open an archive with WinAce only related to DoubleClick in any shell environment, such as Microsoft Explorer.
